Abstract

Mobile games are becoming more and more popular nowadays. By the end of 2019 the mobile gaming market had grown to an estimated worth of $65.5Bn and accounted for almost 50% of the total global game market[1]. Delay affects gaming experience a lot. Wireless connection such as WiFi has long been criticized for having delay in internet connection when compared with ethernet wired connection. Study had shown that human has a threshold in accepting delay caused by internet connection [2] [3]. The delay is also separated into audio delay and visual delay. Human usually can accept up to 150ms delay for visual delay. Analyzing connection caused delay can benefit future gaming development.

Another concern is the connection stability when people playing games while moving. WiFi is set up by having a fixed router or access point. However, it is wireless connection which also allows gamers to move while keeping their connection [4]. No only WiFi has limit on the connection range, which also called coverage, but stability of connection during moving are also worth studying. While human normal walking speed is around 1.3 m/s [6], will speed of moving affects WiFi connection?

Our simulation will focus on the capabilities of WiFi in following areas:

1. Moving capacity

2. Delay acceptance

3. Coverage and range of connection

4. Capacity of multiple users as well as they affecting each other
